Some Challenges in QA and How to Solve Them: 4 Practical Tips

Some-Challenges-in-QA-and-How-to-Solve-Them-4-Practical-Tips

Sometimes, junior testers don’t wonder about why the software is intended and how clients will use it in the future. For most, compliance with requirement specification comes first, which at times can be too different from reality.

In some cases, a person who sets a task (a client or project manager) can have little knowledge, time, and desire to bother with business processes. Hence, the software may be ok during testing, but after it goes into production, a lot of bugs appear there.

Further, we’ll try to make it clear how a junior tester can make the software useful for the end-user.

1. Trust Is Good, but Control Is Better

Sometimes, junior QA engineers try to implement the best testing methodologies that are the perfect fit for the right product. And every once in a while, they don’t pay attention to software performance (when it gives incorrect data as initial value). And this is the first thing that happens when a product starts working in a real environment.

Obviously, it’s impossible to estimate all the software use cases, but we definitely should work in this direction.

2. Step into Users’ Shoes

Another issue can arise with users of the program. Any potential user (even if he/she has a detailed software user guide) can always click on some key combination or enter such data that can break the algorithm (if it doesn’t have a fool-tolerance).

It’s not all that difficult for a QA engineer to put oneself in a potential user’s place. After all, they (users) are only people and can make mistakes. If there is such an opportunity, it is worth paying attention to different sets of combinations and trying to enter incorrect data.

3. Don’t Keep It for Later

Testers can unconsciously forget to perform tests of particular functionality. Therefore, they make additional problems for themselves while working on a quickly executable task. For example, they can forget to check the correct performance of the bread crumbs while testing the navigation.

Such problems don’t seem big ones comparing with other tasks. And QA can decide that their testing can be postponed for later. And the most critical thing here is the fact that “later” may simply not come due to lack of time or change of priorities in work.

4. Calmness and Maximum Restraint

Occasionally, everyone may be in situations with a tight deadline. Hurry testing will definitely lead to defective software in production and some of its system functions may be performed incorrectly.

And if the product is large and contains complex logic, then you as a QA engineer will have to spend a lot of time testing the same functionality several times. Without critical evaluation of your capabilities and easy implementation of your duties, you will definitely not be able to do something in time.
